Dorothy Carrington remembered
On 6th June it will be the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dorothy Carrington, Corsica's famous English writer. As well as being the author of Granite Island, perhaps the most authoritative book (in any language) on Corsica written during the last century, she is a figure who is fondly remembered all over the island. Although I was a frequent visitor to the island during her last years, I never had a chance to meet her.
Her birth will be marked in style on the island - and Corsophiles all over the world have a chance to join in. See www.festival-dorothycarrington.com for details.
There is a photographic competition, open to everyone, in which entrants are invited to submit photos inspired by Dorothy's writings. Please note that the closing date for this competition is 25th May 2010, so there's no time to lose.
The other event is a lunch, to be held in Ajaccio on her birthday, Bookings are now being taken. See the website above for details.
