Happy Christmas!

After some of the wettest weather and worst storms seen on the island for many years, I hope that the people who live in Corsica all year round can settle down to a peaceful and Happy Christmas.

To give you an idea of the sights that may greet some of these lucky people on Christmas morning, I'm including a picture taken in the interior earlier this month - forwarded to me by a friend in Puerto Rico who has strong family links with the island.

I'm ashamed to say I've never spent Christmas in Corsica. The earliest we've been in the year has been March - but this did not stop us playing snowballs in the snowbound Castagniccia on one occasion quite recently. And I do envy (a bit!) an Anglo-Corsican couple who will be heading for the island before the end of the year and who tell me that during their stay they will be "trying to organise putting the roof back on, after the recent v high winds, but really looking forward to some misty days with chimneys and woodsmoke."

On that evocative note, I'd like to wish all of you a very Happy Christmas and a successful and worry-free New Year.
